Contradance

Contradance

Saturday September 23, 10:30 am

Town Park

Contra is a communal-style folk dance, from American Colonial times, that is fun and easy to learn. Partners dance in parallel lines, opposite — or “contra” — to their partners. In response to the Caller’s instructions, each couple interacts with the couple next to them to form a four person “set” and each set interacts with the sets on either side of them. Over the course of a dance each couple interacts with every other couple in their multi-set “line.” Dancers enjoy live Celtic and Old-Time music from outstanding musicians. This dance will include several contras with a couple of waltzes, a polka and demonstrations of other dances (Irish step dance, ballroom). No experience is necessary, all dances are taught. Come with or without a partner.  Join us for this fun community event – a great way to perk up your morning!
