“There is a distinctly Earthy feel to the music made by Free the Honey”

The Americana tree is sprouting a new branch on the Western Slope of Colorado, where three mountain women and one gent gather to make up Free the Honey. The band offers up original tunes with richly layered vocal harmonies and authentic acoustic resonance. Formed originally to support each others stories, songs and voices, the band consists of Jenny Hill (fiddle, mandolin, guitar), Lizzy Plotkin (fiddle, mandolin, ukelele), Katherine Taylor (banjo, guitar, mandolin) and Andrew Cameron (upright bass). Drawing inspiration from their contemporary mountain culture and their respective musical upbringings of Texas swing, Nashville Folk and Country, Deep South roots music and Denver’s emerging arts scene, the band is creating a Honeygrass sound that is all their own! The fresh, sweet sounds of Honeygrass weave the traditions of folk, gypsy, bluegrass and jazz, to bring to life to the new songs of today. Driven by twin fiddles, open back banjo, 3-part harmonies, and swinging’ rhythms, And vibrant storytelling! The band is gaining momentum and recognition on their home mountain landscape and beyond as crowds are washed over by the harmonious sounds of Free the Honey, often referred to by fans as a good “refresh button”. This summer they are delighted to play the stages of Palisade Bluegrass and Roots Festival and The John Hartford Memorial Festival and looking forward to appearances at Palisade Peach Festival, Lake City: Uncorked and the upcoming  release of their first full-length studio record due out in late August!
